Those that were there know we had a great camp at Silverstone in 2008 for the last BC24 with over 500 people staying at the track for the weekend. Last year, being only a six hour race it was admittedly a little quieter but the race is back in 2010 on October 1,2,3. Traditionally an outstanding weekend for weather and possibly the last hot weekend of the year. Hopefully!

So, join us please for an indian summer party at Silverstone. If you’ve not been, the Britcar is the race that Top Gear did back in 2007 in the Pensiton Villas BMW 330d. Silverstone is surprisingly spectacular for night racing as it is bloody dark out there and makes for great spectator viewing especially down at the Abbey grandstands. Once again, premium campers with WRR get to bring their cars in which means getting about the circuit is an absolute cinch! We’re told that there are some 50 entries paid up for the race with perhaps 20+ expected in addition so it should be a good grid.

We will be located in the usual spot right behind the start finsih grandstand making it a 2 minute walk to the pit lane which, true to Britcar style will be open to one and all. Ask nicely and the teams will usually allow you in for a look around.

There will be two levels of camp again at Silverstone. Standard camp will be cheap, basic and located just outside the payline but still very close to Gate 5 for easy ins and outs and you can park your car on your pitch.

The premium camp is located within the payline in a secured compound which will be marshalled 24hrs with only one way in or out and strict wristband only access. This site will have onsite showers and is very close to two toilet blocks and the Bridge cafe and bar. Britcar tell us they are putting something on in that area so we’ll let you know what that is when we find out more. Obviously the paddock bar over in the pit area will be rowdy as usual. Premium campers can bring their cars in and navigate the inner perimeter ring road and the areas within the track itself at will.

Prices are held at the same as the last two years and are for the full weekend so, get yourself up there after work on the Friday and enjoy the qualifying!

Basic Camp: £30 per car (including £5 booking fee (paypal tax!)) which includes camping for up to three people.

Premium Camp: £50 per car (including £5 booking fee as above) and includes camping for up to Four people included in the secure area as well as your car pass.

Ticket prices also include postage for any booked before 15th September. Any booked thereafter will need to be collected at the main gate.

As ever, we will not be particularly strict with space and I will be very happy to arrange group pitches for anyone wanting to book multiple pitches and set up together. Just drop us an email accordingly and we’ll sort it.

Camp will be open from 12pm on Friday 1st October to 6pm on Sunday 3rd.

With just a matter of days before the White Rabbit team descend on La Sarthe we can already feel the excitement building up on what is lined up to be another great event. We have experienced a lot of interest this year in our private campsite with a massive percentage being previous members returning with us for another year. We also welcome all the newbie’s to our Le Mans experience and look forward to your feedback on your experience.

To expand on what we provided last year the WRR private campsite has had a bit more work done and will hopefully be even nicer than last year!

To repeat the success of last year we will again be providing race coverage from within the members lounge in the house and hopefully will be able to put together another film night as last year’s proved such a huge success. From my point of view last year was a great experience as I was sat by the projector on film night and expected to turn around at the end of the film to find half of the crowd had left, to my amazement everyone was still sat firm and to top it off we had a great time launching the many sky lanterns into the warm Le Mans evening.

Over the build up to the race I managed to pop around and say hi to a few of the new members joining us to pop their Le Mans cherry, and it’s safe to say some of you was more excited than a 5 year old at Christmas so I hope to see and chat to more people this year!

This year we are set for a great race, the Diesel LMP1 cars are once again set to be head to head with Audi returning on what’s promised to be a much better package than the R15 of 2009. We also have Aston Martin LMP1 returning to take on the might of the Diesel generation.

Another couple of teams to watch/cheer for are the British teams of Drayson Racing and Beechdean Mansel Racing. From earlier races of 2010 Drayson Racing are showing incredible pace for the Petrol teams and now featuring Emanuelle Pirro who proved at Sebring that since leaving from Audi as a works driver that he still has what it takes to upset the top teams by pulling off what has to be said as some of the best overtaking on the Peugeot that I have ever seen, and yes I did say the Petrol LMP1 overtaking the Mighty fast Peugeot Diesel!!

Further back on the grid we are also seeing a shuffle up on the classes and see new cars racing for the 2010 race such as the FORD GT and BMW M3. Bmw Racing have shown great progress on building a top GT car with hard racing at Leguna Seca with the Flying Lizard racing Porsche to finish in the 2nd place spot just 1 car length behind after 6 hours racing. Also BMW Celebrate a overall victory at the Nurburgring after a hard 24 hours showing they are a force to be reckoned with at Le Mans.

This year we are also granted the pleasure of a complete sports packed weekend with England playing in the World Cup and the Formula 1 race on the Sunday. We understand not everyone will be up for watching the other sport events but we will try to show as much as possible.

From myself I wish you all a great journey down and look forward to another great holiday.

Audi have dominated the Sebring LMP1 race in recent years apart from 2008 due to techinical problems, but won in 2009 with the debut of the Audi R15 TDi but went on to loose the Le Mans 24H to Peugeot. Audi are returning with a improved R15 as Peugeot will be running the 908 in whats to be its last year as a factory car.

Massive congratulations to Jenson Button and the Brawn GP team who today WON THE FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Mercifully spared involvement in the carnage of the first lap in the Brazillian Grand Prix, JB went on a mission with some stunning overtaking to rise from 14th to 9th place at the end of lap 1. A rookie Japanese got in the way a little bit but was soon dispatched followed by a balls-in-hand move on Buemi in a quick Toro Rosso sent a whooping Jenson on his way. Late in the race, JB’s sixth place to Barricello’s third was enough to take the title but an unfortunate puncture for Reubens saw him drop to 8th which popped in the final stitch for Jenson. All that remained was for JB to run 7 smooth laps to take the title.

Despite the BBC’s Jonathan Legard trying his best with the commentator’s curse, speed and consistency won the day and our man went on to a very sound fifth place. I’m sure that somewhere, someone won the race, oh yeah, an Australian, but no matter, fantastic news for British Motor-racing. Two back to back world champions for the first time in 40 years! Well done Jenson. It’s been a long time coming and is very, very well deserved!

What a race, what a year and what a story. From being just days from turning off the lights and locking the doors after Honda’s withdrawl BGP have seemingly done the impossible nailing both the drivers’ and constructors’ world championships in their ‘debut’ season. Hats off to Ross Brawn for paying tribute to those that lost their jobs and I imagine some questions being asked over in Japan about the withdrawl. If an independant can do it why not a huge company like Honda? If ever someone was to make a movie about sporting resurrections then here’s a plot all written and ready!

WOOHOO!

Only two-hundred and something days to go then! As usual we can’t wait. I guess that means that WRR’s 2010 will be from Tuesday 8th to Monday 14th then! Brilliant. After such an awesome 2009 we are all keen to carbon copy that for 2010. Those that were there will agree I think! Tour details will be announced through The Hutch in due course!

So that’s it. WRR’s 2009 event season officially finished with a bang with WRR enjoying two weekends on the bounce in Northants hosting first, the first ever official race-camp on behalf of Silverstone for the British Superbikes. The huge campsite was populated by some 600+ race fans who enjoyed watching Leon Camier settle the 2009 Championship on the stonking Airwaves Yamaha R1 with victory in race one and second place in race two. WRR was lucky enough to obtain the keys to a roadgoing 09 R1 and was suitably terrified. What a bike!

The following weekend, thanks once more to the Britcar championship, we rolled out a third Britcar AREA-24 race camp for the Britcar 500. This was a stonking 6 hour battle on the full international circuit. With the race starting at 4pm, we were again treated to the awesome spectacle of night racing at Silverstone. If you have not seen this make sure you check out next season when we hope the 24hr race will be back. The well deserved win was eventually taken by the hard campaigning Topcats Mosler team.

You can read Steve Wood’s excellent race report in full HERE and our friends at Snappy Racers would probably not mind you dropping by their gallery of images

We’ve had a great time at all the race camps we’ve run this year. Le Mans was awesome and we’re hoping to repeat that amazing location next year but in the meantime, we’d like to say thank you to the 1000ish people that we have hosted this year. We’ve met some great characters and laughed a lot taking away fond memories such as the WRR Le Mans Jet Bike. Thanks to you all for being good company and we hope you’ll be back.

As to 2010, watch this space but we imagine we will kick off with a trip to the Nurburgring for Easter weekend in the hope of repeating the unbelievable time we had this year. And everyone has times to beat. Will Mikey have the cojones to take his new 135i out?! We’re certainly looking foward to seeing how the WRR M3 Evo does now we have a bit more experience under our belts!

Have a great winter everyone and keep in touch.
