Massive congratulations to Jenson Button and the Brawn GP team who today WON THE FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Mercifully spared involvement in the carnage of the first lap in the Brazillian Grand Prix, JB went on a mission with some stunning overtaking to rise from 14th to 9th place at the end of lap 1. A rookie Japanese got in the way a little bit but was soon dispatched followed by a balls-in-hand move on Buemi in a quick Toro Rosso sent a whooping Jenson on his way. Late in the race, JB’s sixth place to Barricello’s third was enough to take the title but an unfortunate puncture for Reubens saw him drop to 8th which popped in the final stitch for Jenson. All that remained was for JB to run 7 smooth laps to take the title.

Despite the BBC’s Jonathan Legard trying his best with the commentator’s curse, speed and consistency won the day and our man went on to a very sound fifth place. I’m sure that somewhere, someone won the race, oh yeah, an Australian, but no matter, fantastic news for British Motor-racing. Two back to back world champions for the first time in 40 years! Well done Jenson. It’s been a long time coming and is very, very well deserved!

What a race, what a year and what a story. From being just days from turning off the lights and locking the doors after Honda’s withdrawl BGP have seemingly done the impossible nailing both the drivers’ and constructors’ world championships in their ‘debut’ season. Hats off to Ross Brawn for paying tribute to those that lost their jobs and I imagine some questions being asked over in Japan about the withdrawl. If an independant can do it why not a huge company like Honda? If ever someone was to make a movie about sporting resurrections then here’s a plot all written and ready!
